Wondering Wednesday - Wondering how to get the kitchen you've
always wanted
Kitchens are probably the complicated of all renovations. First, you have to give up a space for a period of time that you rely on every day, even if only to make coffee and use the toaster oven. But you want to start cooking more often, especially after watching the Cooking Channel for several years! Hey, like Ina Garten says, "Wasn't that easy?"
To start, find yourself a good architect who has experience with residential renovations and who also understands the costs of remodeling in your area. Ask to see the kitchens he or she has designed and speak and/or visit several clients.
Most importantly, your architect should be a good listener, someone who wants to know how you are going to use the space and understands your needs. The first shock most homeowners get when starting a kitchen project is that cabinets take 8 to 10 weeks after being ordered to be received at your home. Hopefully, your architect has a good relationship to a cabinetry and kitchen vendor, optimally one with a showroom that you can visit.
